Expanding Your Church Organization: Holding an Audition for a Choir
Choir organizations are always in search for new and potential members. This is because their performance is greatly affected by the number of members who are willing to commit for rehearsals and services. Some choir members, especially the seniors, are getting involved in some activities outside the church. This is the reason why the number of members in every church service keeps on declining.
With this issue, church organizations must seek for more qualified members to join the group. Auditions can be conducted to search for talented individuals who can be part of a choir organization.
Organizing an audition for a church choir starts with a good planning. The organization’s members must set the date and venue of the audition. They must also decide on who will be conducting the trial performance. Some choir auditions involve the trainer and other senior members that represent each voice classification.
Announce the audition to people who may be interested in joining your organization. There is a part of the Holy Mass in which announcements are read, so take that opportunity to promote the activity. In addition, members of a specific choir organization can help spreading the news through word of mouth.
Another effective way of promoting the audition is through creating printed materials like print flyers, brochures and posters. Brochures and flyers can be produced to include pertinent information about the choir, the requirements, the date and venue of the audition. Posters can contain the same information included on the brochures. However, print posters can be placed on the entrance of parish offices and in church bulletins for public view. Poster, brochure and flyer printing can be done for this specific purpose.
Produce admission forms for interested people. Admission forms must gather information about the aspirant’s name, age, gender, previous experience in singing, interests, musical skills and contact information. It is also important to ask a 1 x 1 or 2 x 2 picture from the aspirants. These forms will help the organizers to review the profiles and decide who will be qualified for the trial performance.
Inform the aspirants about the stages of the audition process. This will help them to prepare and bring musical instruments if necessary. In some situations, an aspirant is asked to sing his or her favorite musical piece and a praise or religious song of choice. After singing, the trainer will test the aspirant if he or she knows how to follow and sing with the tone from the pressed keys in the piano.
These steps can help a choir organization to look for potential vocal talents. Furthermore, encouraging people to join an organization, whether it is a choir or a service group under the church, is a good way to make people feel that they are worthy and valuable to the church and community.
